Copyright Resources

The Copyright Act was amended by Parliament in June 2012, and a recent Supreme Court decision on “fair dealing” was issued in July 2012.  These amendments and rulings have changed how copyright laws affect educators.  Teachers and students now have new rights and obligations under copyright law and the “fair dealing” provision.

Infringement of copyright laws by you, your school and your school board could result in copyright owners seeking damages against you.

Below are resources that educators can use to understand the guidelines around fair dealings in schools, the responsibilities of school officials and educators regarding copyright, and how you can become compliant with copyright law.

Educators are strongly encouraged to consult their administration around rules and guidelines around copyright.
